You May Need Emotional Spring Cleaning!

It’s Spring time! Spring is synonymous with spring cleaning and a time for fresh new starts!

However, all too often we make the mistake of clearing clutter only from our Outer Physical Space and leave emotional clutter lying around in our Inner Space for decades! When was the last time you cleared out thoughts, feelings, and old stories, hurts that no longer serve or empower you?

Truth is , your inner world creates your outer reality! You cant really start a NEW chapter or a NEW PHASE of life if you are still holding on to decades of Old Emotional junk inside!

Honestly though, it is not your fault really!

From a very early age, you were taught to tidy up our house, your space, clean your teeth, take a shower daily to clean your body, etc. You may have sometimes seen your mother clear out old stuff from the house and give it away for charity etc..

However no one ever told you to take time to clean your mind, your heart of the emotional dirt. Forget clearing out DAILY dirt, most folks have emotional baggage that has not been cleared for decades! And because it is not something that you can visually see, you keep going day after day with unnecessary excess emotional baggage!

10 signs that You May Need Emotional Spring Cleaning!

  1. You have physical aches and pains or are in a state of DIS-EASE
  2. You are feeling like a VICTIM of your circumstances
  3. You are in a comparison mode and find yourself complaining a lot
  4. You are riddled with self doubt
  5. Your relationships feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster!
  6. You find it hard to trust yourself and others
  7. You feel stuck and frustrated where you are you don’t know how to get out of there
  8. You feel physically tired and exhausted
  9. You lack clarity and direction about where you are headed
  10. You have regrets about the past and find yourself in the “if only…” wonderings. If only I had… If only they had…If only!

If you identify with many of these traits, you would do well to get started with clearing out Emotional Clutter!

Tips on Getting Started Emotional Spring cleaning!

  1. Acknowledge the emotional baggage exists
    Most people want to dismiss the fact that they have emotional baggage, or deny it is impacting their everyday life.
  2. Identify the Tallest Emotional Trees in your Emotional Forrest
    We all carry old emotional hurts, upsets, feelings of shame, anger etc. I call it our Emotional Forrest. There are those really tall emotional trees; those BIG UPSETTING INCIDENTS; that just STAND OUT from the rest, and we have other incidents that are less upsetting but still hurt when we think about them, though not as intensely as the TALL ones.
  3. Scan Your Emotional Forrest
    Take a look at the past and pick out those TALL, KEY incidents that upset you in the past. Get a paper and pencil and make a list of 10-20 incidents that you clearly remember.
  4. Rate the Intensity you feel for each incident
    Look at the list and rate on a scale of 0-10, rate each incident.
    10= this still hurts A LOT!    0= I don’t feel anything now.NOTE:
  • Most folks quickly tend to dismiss the upsetting incidents as they now LOGICALLY understand why this happened and its been a LONG TIME. Yes its been a long time, but there is a part of you that still hurts EMOTIONALLY, even though LOGICALLY you understand what happened!
  • Some say – why dig the painful past, when you can think POSITIVE now and go on from there! TRUE…but if you said YES to any of the 10 Signs above, and you are feeling stalled, have aches and pains, feel like a VICTIM etc that is a SIGN. There are STUCK EMOTIONS in your Inner Closets! It is worth it to do this clearing now, before it gets worse.
  1. Create time to clear out this old clutter
    Most folks say they are too busy and don’t have time to clear emotional clutter. Maybe they are scared to go there. But once you understand YOU ATTRACT WHAT YOU HOLD ON TO, and YOUR INNER WORLD CREATES YOUR OUTER WORLD, you will want to CREATE time for it!
  2. Develop a ROUTINE for Emotional Clearing
    Whether it is journaling, breathing exercises, my favourite tool EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), or any other tool that you prefer, make sure you build emotional cleansing into your ROUTINE.Unlike physical clutter, you cannot take a day and declutter all the emotional junk!  Including it as part of routine will ensure you regularly trash out stuff and feel lighter and clearer as you move forward.
