Are Your Fears Keeping You Stuck?
Have you been thinking about doing something but haven't yet gotten down to doing it? You came across an idea and thought it might be wonderful to try. Maybe you've been mulling over a great idea for quite a while and are quite clear that this is what you need to do next. But its been a while and your bright idea is still "parked" right where you left it even today.
So what's stopping you? What excuse are you using to avoid playing to the full? Are you telling yourself:
But I am too old for this...or
I don't have the money
I don't have the time
I lack experience
It's all new to me, what if I fail?
I'm not sure how to go about it! It's a lot of work!
If I did it, they will judge me!
Are you caught up in the ‘analysis paralysis' loop? Are you over thinking yourself into fears, ‘what ifs', limiting your possibilities, keeping yourself stuck and your dreams at bay?
You will never know if you never try! I remember when I healed myself from chronic pain using the most unorthodox technique there is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). I knew the miracles this tool had done for me, and I wanted to share it. I said to myself "but it looks so weird", "they will laugh", " how will I explain" etc. Thank God I took the first step. I asked a doctor who was a friend and in pain if she'd like to try something different for her pain. She said Yes and got amazing results! I had taken one baby step forward...I asked. The rest is history! I didn't have a detailed well analyzed, organized plan of action or any idea of how it would all turn out for me. I trusted my gut and did what felt right. It's been 6 years and I am truly living my dream life.
There's no room for adventure and excitement when you stay in your comfort zone. Over time it gets boring, dull, monotonous. Is that how you want to live? What if you could begin to tip toe in the direction of your dream, just one small baby step.
Some tips to help get you moving...
- Do not speak about it to the whole world...their judgements/ comments/ lack of belief, and doubting comments may throw you further back!
- Surround yourself with folks like yourself, those who truly love and support you.
- Ask yourself WHY do I REALLY want to do it in the first place. (Hint...there must have been a FUN/JOY/FEEL GOOD factor)
- Ask yourself how does it make me feel when I ignore this wish? Relieved and thrilled? Sad and frustrated?
- Recall a time when you did something out of your comfort zone and how good that felt.
- Ask yourself what tiny baby step could you take to move one in the direction of your desire that feels super easy. Do it. Then repeat. Each tiny success makes it easier to have another.
I'm sure you've heard this before "if we are not growing, we're slowly dying". Life is all about growth and expansion – through successes, failures, pain and joy. It's time to step up to the plate and kick fear out of your life! Sometimes a small step can be the BIGGEST STEP of your life. Not only will your life become more exciting, but you'll begin to build confidence and say YES! to many more things you never dared to try before.
