A Note from Shalini

Hey,

February flew by! Didn't it?

Maybe because it's been an action packed month. From networking events, talks, workshops on the professional front, to the rigorous study pace of my teens at home as both have their mock exams going on. Before I know it, it will be May here and my son will graduate from high school and soon be off to university!

Despite the hectic pace, I feel so blessed to get away for the ‘Makha Bucha’ public holiday mid month. A much needed refresher!

12 years ago I was confined to bed-rest indefinitely because of chronic pain. After many months of medications, pills, physiotherapy, ultra sound therapy, hot packs, cold packs and a ton of other things, nothing worked for me. I was wondering how it could be that after trying everything out there, I was still in so much pain!

Mistake #1: Pain is the enemy
It’s natural to see PAIN as the enemy.
It’s keeping you from living the life you want and interfering in your everyday life!

Truth is Chronic Pain is NOT an enemy.
It's like a friendly messenger.
Like a loyal friend letting you know that something is off balance in your life.
It is asking you to look into those areas in your life that may be off balance- be it your relationships, work, finances, marriage, children etc.

Mistake #2: Trying the Same Treatments
It’s amazing how many of us in chronic pain keeping trying the same treatments EVEN WHEN THEY ARE NOT BRINGING US RELIEF!  
I guess we think if I tried this longer, maybe it would work?

Truth is if it hasn’t been working for a while, it will NOT WORK.
It’s time to TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

Mistake # 3: Focusing ONLY on the Physical Pain
The Most Common Mistake is that because the pain is PHYSICAL, we tend to focus on treat the PHYSICAL pain.

And we are blissfully unaware that the body is not a separate entity. And that the mind, the thoughts, the feelings have no connection with what is going on in the body.

Truth is we are TRIUNE beings. Mind body spirit. So we need to be aware of any emotional, mental, spiritual stress or pain in our lives. Our thoughts and feelings impact our physical body.  And our Chronic Pain has a LOT to do with our Emotional Mental, Spiritual Pain.

Mistake # 4:  Thinking 'I've tried EVERYTHING!'

When you have been in pain for a while, and tried many different things, and its not been working, you get tired, frustrated. You think you’ve tried everything. And nothings worked. So now you are stuck. And maybe you want to give up!

Truth is there are many more tools out there that you are unaware of.  In this modern world, and the access we have via the internet, the choices are unlimited really!  So don’t give up. Keep an open mind and keep trying different things!
